Chrysler’s engine lineup has benefited a lot from incorporating Fiat technology, most notably the Italian automaker’s electronic valve lift system called MultiAir. In the four-cylinder range, the group overhauled the 2.0- and 2.4-liter engines between 2010 and 2012, but the smaller unit didn’t get the fancy new tech, while the larger “Tigershark” did.

However, that will change as of 2016, with the Detroit-based automaker reportedly launching a new two-liter unit, going by the name “Hurricane.”

It will be based on a current engine, that makes 160 hp and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm) under the bonnet of the base Dodge Dart – the obvious way to go would be cut consumption, increase power, and improve refinement, all of which are areas where improvements could be made.

Additional information from the Automotive News report was sparse, and the fact that that company officials denied commenting on the matter, made things even more uncertain, as they neither confirmed nor denied the claims.

Still, this is a move Chrysler should be making for its own good, as its lineup of power plants is not the best, and any improvement/addition is welcome.
