The Frankfurt Motor Show Cactus Concept is Citroen’s fancy and attention-grabbing way of telling us that it will soon have a representative in the increasingly crowded compact crossover segment. The French brand’s own words are that it depicts “a vision for the future models in the C-line”, but pictures, and in particular scoop pictures, speak louder than words…
In fact, we hear that the production version that will most probably bear the C4 Cactus name will make its debut as early as next year at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
The love-it or loathe-it design of the Cactus Concept will be toned down a couple of notches, so don’t expect the air-filled protective bags on the outside of the doors or the pillarless theme to make it on the car you’ll soon find on sale in Citroen’s European showrooms.
As a vehicle based on the same PSA Peugeot-Citroen EMP2 platform that underpins the new C4 Picasso minivan, there won’t be any surprises beneath the hood with the Cactus to share a similar engine range to the other C4 models.
