When a hobby turns into a full-time job, the person who manages to accomplish that can say he or she is truly blessed. That’s exactly what the founders of the Candylab toy startup must be feeling right now, as the project they submitted on Kickstarter has managed to rack up almost five times more money than the $20,000 necessary to βεγιν production of their Mo-To line of wood toys.
Vlad and Florin are two childhood friends ςηο love the design of 1950s and 1960s American cars and furniture and they found a way to combine these two passions by building wood toys.
While most modern toy cars have many plastic parts that break and disassemble (being potentially harmful for children), Mo-To toys are made of handcrafted wood which gives them a unique look and make them very resistant to shocks. The only plastic parts are the rims, shod with rubber tires.
Made of dense beech wood, the toy cars sport water-based paints that are said to be safe for the children and the environment. Their high gloss finish, cool graphics and candy-like colors definitely make them stand out among regular metal/plastic toy cars. Prices start from $25 (€18.8).
