The 1,000hp Hyundai Genesis Coupe won’t be the Korean carmaker’s only exhibit at the upcoming SEMA show in Las Vegas (November 5-8), as it will be joined by a custom EGR Night Racer concept based on the Hyundai Veloster Turbo.
Developed in partnership with the EGR Group, an OEM and aftermarket accessory supplier, the racecar is designed specifically for time attack races at night racing circuits. The car features a unique vivid yellow paint scheme dubbed Yellowcake. The custom-developed color was created by EGR together with paint experts at PPG and Barry’s Speed Shop.
The EGR Night Racer features a Wurton roof-mounted LED light bar and custom ONEighty-branded headlights which ensure visibility on night racing circuits. There’s more to the car than aesthetic upgrades, though.
The custom roll cage helps to significantly increase body rigidity, while ride height is race-tuned with an ARK coil-over suspension and AEM strut brace. Bisimoto Engineering – which also collaborated with Hyundai on the 1000hp Genesis – boosted the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine’s output to 250 horsepower, while the oversized Brembo brakes, DPE 3-piece racing wheels and Toyo semi-slick racing tires help the driver keep the car under control.
On the inside, the car features a custom interior developed by Katzkin with Takata racing seats and harnesses.
“Veloster Turbo provides an ideal tuning platform for enthusiasts who want to modify their cars,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, product planning, Hyundai Motor America. “EGR created a very special night-focused time attack car that perfectly showcases Veloster Turbo’s inherently sporty DNA,” he added.
