Jaguar has released the first sketch of what looks like a crossover concept, called the C-X17 that is tipped to spawn a production version – much like the C-X16 sports car study previewed the F-Type.

The British brand says the C-X17 “has been created as a design study to introduce Jaguar’s new, highly-advanced, modular aluminium architecture.” Also according to the press release, the concept “illustrates the diversity of vehicles that could be produced using this architecture”, which will underpin most future Jaguars. More than that though, we’re sure Jaguar’s main purpose with the study is to test the waters for its first-ever production SUV, expected to hit the market somewhere in 2015.

There are no further details about the C-X17 other than that the sketch showing the muscular contour of the vehicle and the thin taillights that look similar to those of the F-Type. Speaking of which, Jaguar says the “highly-acclaimed F-Type” will be on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but fails to mention whether it’s talking about the roadster or the highly-anticipated coupe version. We’re hoping it’s the latter.

Other models at the Jaguar stand will be the recently launched “R” performance models (XJR and XFR-S) and the XF Sportbrake wagon. The Jaguar C-X17 concept will be revealed live on September 9 at 17.10 CET on the company’s Facebook page, a day before the official presentation.
