More people are turning to the internet for their car-buying tips these days (aren’t they?), doing quick searches and revealing dozens of reviews and personal pieces that are great for forming a preliminary opinion. It is later proven right or wrong, once you have narrowed your search down, and you actually begin test-driving the cars, before proceeding to make the actual purchase.
One key feature that seems to be making a comeback in the industry is the emphasis on driver involvement and entertaining handling. This is odd, since it coincides with the end of hydraulically-assisted steering, which is commonly associated with the loss of feel through the wheel, but understandable, as the game is moving on in so many other areas, resulting in cars that people will also enjoy driving.
They’re even making driver’s EVs now, most notably the Tesla Model S, that also happens to be a comfortable way of moving 5 adults around along with some of their bags or two kids in the rear facing-seats.
Its handling and acceleration have won it high praise, and despite having the dreaded senseless electric steering and the battery pack as a hefty weight penalty, it just sticks to Laguna Seca’s famous dipping corkscrew turn which “drops the equivalent of 5 1/2 stories in only 450 feet of track.”
All of the above was prompted by Tesla’s recently uploaded video, that has several of its EVs (Roadsters included) taking part in the (5th ever) Refuel racing event for speedy electric cars. The fastest Model S posted a time of 1:48.917, putting it on par with a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX or a BMW 335i Coupe, as per some sources.
