We knew it was only a matter of time before Vauxhall would follow sister company Opel’s lead that slashed the price of the Ampera by about 16.6 percent or €7,600 (£6,400) to €38,300 (£32,190) the other day.

This happened today with Vauxhall cutting the price of the extended-range electric vehicle by £3,500, to £28,750 (€34,200) on-the-road, inclusive of the Government’s £5,000 grant, or a 10.9 percent reduction.

The same £3,500 savings apply to the range-topping Electron model that is now available from £30,495 on-the-road. The trim grade’s specifications above the base Postiv includes Bose Energy Efficient Series sound system, hard drive with 30GB music file capacity and satellite navigation system.

The lower-priced Amperas are available to order now in the UK.
