A bizarre incident that took place last Friday in broad daylight on the roads of the crime-ridden Mexico City neighborhood of Colonia Narvarte, and which was filmed from a nearby house through a cell phone camera, has gone viral, eventually reaching the office of Rodolfo Rios Garza, head of the Attorney General of the Federal District (PGJDF), who launched an investigation.
The video shows a man being pulled out of his automobile on the side of the road by at least five motorcyclists wearing police uniforms and taken against his will into a Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck.
As we mentioned before, the case is still under investigation, but the General Attorney told Mexican media that the police discovered papers of a Colombian national in the victim’s abandoned car, which itself, was registered to another, unnamed individual from Mexico, leading many to believe, that the case may be related to drug cartels.
Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly reported the place of the kidnapping as ‘Colonia del Valle’, when in fact, it occurred in ‘Colonia Narvarte’. Both are neighborhoods in Mexico City, and according to this study, are in the top 10 list of areas with higher crime rates in Mexico City.
