Volkswagen says it outright in the official press release that the new all-electric e-load up! is ideal for couriers and pizza delivery duties, and by the looks of it, we’d say they’re right.
With a maximum quoted range of 160 km (100 miles) from its 18.7 kW/h battery pack, and as much as 210 Nm (154 lb-ft) the e-load up! hits 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 12.4 seconds and tops out at 130 km/h (81 mph), it mirrors the equally-frugal, yet passenger-faring e-up!.
This makes it sound very suitable for the kind of life that has been envisioned for it (if the necessary charging infrastructure is in place, of course). Come to think of it, they would not have made it at all, if they thought there was no market for it.
The numbers stack up too, with its total carrying capacity of 306 kg (673 lbs) and a sizeable loading area of 1,400 liters (49.5 cu ft), it could even be used to carry something heavier than pizza boxes too. This massive volume for its size is achieved by removing the back seat (obviously), but also by having a folding passenger’s seat that moves out of the way.
Still, the electric version will probably not be the big seller in the commercial up! range, as VW is also offering this same package, but with the conventional power plants too – an eco up! version sounds good in this context too.
The car is set to make its premiere very soon, at the Frankfurt motor show – until then, there are photos below.
