Have you ever paid attention where carmakers place secondary model emblems on their cars? Probably not, but that doesn’t mean automakers and their employees have the freedom of positioning badges wherever they want, otherwise some people may think that big soccer-mom Honda is the new Elite with the Odyssey trim grade…
As insignificant as it may seem to most drivers and owners, Honda’s factory mixed up the positioning of the emblems on certain 2014 Odyssey minivans placing the trim grade on the left side of the tailgate and the model name on the right, when it should be the other way around.
It’s not a recall per se, but Honda did send a letter to owners of the car, one of which landed in the office of Consumer Reports (the merits of owning the test cars and not using press models).
“On some 2013 Odyssey vehicles, the Odyssey emblem was incorrectly installed on the passenger’s side of the rear tailgate. The emblem should be installed on the drivers’ side of the rear tailgate. American Honda Motor Company highly recommends that you participate in this Product Update. The placement of the emblem may indicate that the vehicle has had repairs performed that are consistent with it being in a crash. This could affect the resale value of the vehicle.”
So, if you’re worried that someone may think you’ve crashed your Odyssey because the emblems are on the wrong side of the car, then you should go to Honda and get it fixed. If you couldn’t care less, then, there’s no need to do anything and you can save yourself a trip to your dealer…
