Prototypes of Chevrolet’s next global compact model, the 2015 Cruze sedan, which will eventually spawn a five-door hatchback and a roomier estate version as well, are making their presence felt on public roads and tracks, to the delight of spy photo- and video-graphers.
One of the top selling compacts in the U.S., GM not only wants to keep it that way but it is aiming for the first spot and to do that, it will give the new Cruze a sharper looking (both literally and metaphorically) body on the outside and an improved cabin with better materials and technology inside.
The new Cruze rides on an updated version of General Motors’ Delta platform, shared with a number of other cars, including the next Chevrolet Volt and Opel Astra / Buick Verano.
At this point, little is known about the powertrain options and whether GM will include new engines and automatic transmissions, but it is certain that diesel units will be offered on both sides of the Atlantic.
It’s understood that the Cruze sedan will launch in late 2015, meaning that we could see it making its motor show debut earlier. For the time being, make the jump over the break to watch this spy video, courtesy of France’s Automobile Magazine.
