Lexus has finally figured out what the problem was with the unique LF-NX concept they revealed at the Frankfurt motor show in September – it was the 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle petrol engine and electric motor combo…

Now, they’re announcing that they’ve made it all better by swapping out of the hybrid powertrain, and placing a 2.0-liter turbocharged unit, thus fixing all of its issues.

In addition, since the styling was so well-received and unanimously called successful, they’re going to emphasize its lines by giving the concept a sportier stance (lower springs) and “a front under spoiler.”

Sarcasm aside, the new engine is an important step for Lexus towards the global mainstream, as they must have by now realized that some people just want old fashioned diesels in their luxury cars, or smaller capacity petrol units.

We don’t know how much power it’s going to make, but we have heard that the production version of the upcoming concept will bear the NX 200t nameplate – it should make upward of 200 hp to be competitive.
