It’s time to learn the three finalists for the respective categories of the 2014 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the year.

In the regular car segment, the three models that made it to the last round are the new Cadillac CTS, Mazda3 compact and Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, while the Jeep Cherokee, Chevrolet Silverado and Acura MDX are the candidates for the truck and utility vehicle award.

Evidently, GM feels pleased having three nominees in the final round – hence the release of the group shot as soon as it learned the results…

In 2013, Cadillac’s ATS won the North American Car of the Year while the Ram 1500 was the North American Truck of the Year.

Forty-eight automotive journalists from the United States and Canada took part in this year’s voting, initially choosing from 28 cars and 18 truck and utility vehicles, all of which had to be completely-new or substantially redesigned models that were presented during the course of 2013.

This past September, in the second round of voting, the jurors picked out 12 cars and 12 truck/utilities, from which we ended up with the three finalists we mentioned before.

If you don’t remember, these are the second phase candidates:
