If you don’t like the quirky looks and slightly compromised practicality of the Nissan Juke, yet still want the same basic concept of a vehicle and it being Japanese, then the Mitsubishi ASX is a worthy and reportedly competent choice.
Now refreshed for 2014, the small crossover comes with lowered UK pricing as well as the addition of an automatic gearbox for the first time ever.
Known as the Outlander Sport in the US, the ASX has a choice of three engines in UK: a 1.6-liter petrol engine with 115 hp, a 1.8-liter diesel with 114 hp; the former comes with a five-speed manual only, while the oil burner gets one extra gear, though you still have to shift yourself.
The big news here is the 2.2-liter diesel from the larger Outlander, which can now be had with an automatic gearbox for the very first time.
When it comes to where drive is distributed to, the petrol engine is exclusively front-wheel drive, while the diesels can be had with AWD too; the 2.2 automatic is only available with the latter.
Pricing starts at £14,999 (down from £16,999) for the base petrol and rises to £23,899. Complete list and photos follow below.
