As a niche luxury firm with a limited lineup, Bentley feels no need to debut a brand new car or concept at every international motor show. As such, the only news it will have for 2014 Detroit motor show goers is the North American premiere of the Continental GT V8 S range with a more potent 4.0-liter turbocharged mill.

First displayed at last September’s Frankfurt motor show, the Continental GT V8 S represents a step up from the base GT V8, in terms of performance, handling and features.

The “S” model is fitted with an uprated twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine producing 521 hp (528PS) and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque, or 27hp/ps and 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) respectively more than the standard Continental GT V8. The package is complemented with an 8-speed automatic transmission upgraded with an S mode, tuned chassis, 20-inch wheels and new exterior and interior trim bits.

Bentley claims the GT V8 S coupe dispatches the 0-60 mph (96km/h) sprint in 4.3 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.5s) before reaching a top speed of 192 mph (309 km/h).

Joining the Continental GT V8 S at Bentley’s Cobo Center display will be the latest model year versions of the Flying Spur and the Mulsanne luxury sedans.
