When Porsche put diesel engines into its Cayenne and Panemera, it made sure they sounded as petrol-like as possible, especially at idle. Now, another luxurious brand from within the VW group wants to do pretty much the same thing: Bentley.
There have been many reports and rumors as to the possible addition of a diesel engine to the powerplant lineup the Flying B has at its disposal. Autocar says the information was confirmed by group CEO Martin Winterkorn himself, who was directly quoted: “Diesel for Bentley is decided. It won’t be a V10. But the V10 is not dead within the VW Group; there will be a successor.”
It is suggested then that it could either be a V12 or V8 engine, but it’s most likely the latter, since the trend is to downsize, even in Germany.
No specific information on which models could be getting the new engine was released either, though it’s safe to assume that it won’t be the Mulsanne flagship.
