From the dawn of the motoring age, or actually, come to think of it, from the time we humans discovered that we could use horses for our transportation needs, people enjoyed staging races. We still do, and one of the most archetypal types of racing is a straight-line duel.
It doesn’t matter if we’ve seen the same machines before, as there are always a number of parameters that can change with each race – from the driver, to the condition of the vehicle and the road.
We could go on talking about this subject forever, but let’s see what we have in store for you in the following video before you abandon us…
It’s the “Race the Runway” charity event at the Edinburgh Airport in Scotland that was sponsored by Mercedes-Benz and covered by AutoExpress magazine. In total, 25 high-performance and super-cars participated in the race on the 1,350 meter (0.839 miles) course on one of the taxi runways.
The cars included the following models, though, unfortunately, we only get to see a handful of them (yes, we too wanted to see the R33 Skyline and the Tuscan):
Lamborghini Aventador
Ferrari FF
Porsche 911 Turbo (997)
Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder
Mercedes SL63 AMG Performance
Mercedes SLS GT
Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R
Mercedes E63 AMG S
BMW M6
BMW M3 GTS
Audi RS6 (MkI)
TVR Tuscan
Ferrari 599 GTB HGTE
