Next Volvo XC90 Could Debut This Fall

The XC90 is one of the most outdated-looking SUVs on the market, and Volvo revealing the XC Coupe concept did not make its case any better. It is due for swift replacement, though, but we don’t know the exact time frame when it will take place.

Car&Driver, however, may have the answer, after having spoken with Volvo Cars North America president and CEO, Tony Nicolosi, who hinted that it might make its debut this fall. His exact words were: “You’ll start seeing the [next-generation] XC90 very soon. We will probably bring it to the L.A. auto show, but the actual U.S. sales start for the XC90 late March 2015.”

Still, it will be branded a 2016 model-year car in the States, where it’s set to test the water with new downsized and hybridized powertrains. However, I doubt the source article’s information regarding the use of the traditional 2.5-liter five-pot petrol engine in the new XC90, as the engine is being phased out and not known for its efficiency.

Besides, some older reports (from more than a year ago) that claimed to be based on classified official information, said it would have no engines bigger than 2.0-liter and make the rest of the needed power through hybridization.
