When it comes to drag racing, the Tesla Model S has proven itself a worthy opponent even for established sports cars, so how about putting it side by side with the new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51?
That’s exactly what the folks from DragTimes did, choosing the most capable version of each car on sale today: the Model S P85 and the Corvette Stingray Z51. The Tesla Model S P85 has 416 hp from an electric motor, while the Corvette Stingray Z51 is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine producing 455 hp (460 hp with the optional performance exhaust system).
Torque is even more important in a drag race, and the Tesla Model S has an advantage here, as the electric engine delivers all its 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) at the first push of the accelerator pedal, while the Corvette’s engine delivers its 460 lb-ft (624 Nm) of torque from 4,600 rpm.
Sounds like a pretty tight race, so scroll down to find which car wins.
