This is the new Audi Sport ABT Formula-E with which Audi and its partner ABT Sportsline will take part in the new FIA racing championship featuring fully-electric single seater cars that kicks off in Beijing, China) on September 13 this year.
The racing car that will go on display at the Geneva Motor Show next week sports the standard chassis with an electric motor twisting out 200kW (268hp / 272PS) in the training and qualifying sessions, and 133kW (178hp / 181PS) in the energy-saving racing mode, though, there is a Push-to-Pass-Button button that briefly activates another 67 kW (90hp / 91PS).
The Audi Sport ABT Formula-E Team will compete in the first season of the series with former F1 racer and Audi factory driver Lucas di Grassi and GP2 youngster Daniel Abt, who happens to be the son of ABT Sportsline founder and CEO, Hans-Jürgen Abt.
“This is an entirely new chapter in our company’s 60-year motorsport history,” commented Hans Jürgen Abt: “For us, this is a fascinating new challenge and we now know that electrical drives may be free of emissions but certainly not free of emotions. We not only want to be one of the first teams but also one of the top teams.”
