The risk of spontaneous combustion has prompted Nissan to announce the recall of 16,838 Frontier pickups in North America. Apparently, the issue stems from an incorrectly installed circuit breaker that can also run the risk of preventing the powered seats or sunroof from operating.
Of the nearly 17,000 vehicles called back, most (13,535) are in the US, some in Mexico (1,930) and fewer in Canada (1,373).
No incidents or injuries connected to this fault have yet been reported, and the problem can be remedied at the dealers’ where the improper circuit breaker and wire harness can be checked. The only report that would confirm the problem is one signaling smoke coming from under the dashboard, in one of the trucks being used in Mexico, in December.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (or NHTSA) said notification of owners will commence at the beginning of March.
