It’s not only BMW that has been expanding and experimenting with all sorts of different body styles, some of which make sense, some not, but the entire German auto industry, sans one brand that is based, but not owned or controlled by Germans (yes, that would be Opel, which has other problems to deal with first).
If you’re a German industry insider or an imaginative designer like Remco Meulendijk, you may have noticed an opening in Mercedes’ range of sportier looking sedans (commonly known in the business as “four-door coupes”), the compact CLA and the executive CLS.
According to Meulendijk, this gap can be bridged with a 2015 C-Class-based model carrying the CLC moniker, which he imagined with the help of digital tools.
The styling of the car would be similar to the upcoming C-Class Coupe (the one with only two-doors), but with the addition of two rear doors. The rear end designs of both the CLC and the C-Class Coupe draw inspiration from the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe – it won’t be long before we need a booklet to decipher all these designations…
The CLC would go up against the new BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe and the existing Audi A5 Sportback. Thoughts?
