Peugeot has announced it has built the 100,000th 2008 crossover, less than a year after its launch. The milestone car rolled off the assembly line at the Mulhouse plant in France and was handed over to a customer from the Paris region during a ceremony attended by Corinne Spilios, the Director of the Mulhouse production center and Xavier Duchemin, Director of Peugeot France.
Unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the 2008 quickly became a success, with Peugeot racking up more than 100,000 orders. Built only at the Mulhouse facility for all countries except China and Latin American markets, the Peugeot 2008 was labelled “Origine France Garantie” in September 2013, as 73 percent of its components are made in France.
The 2008’s promising sales start resulted in Peugeot increasing its production at the Mulhouse plant to 680 vehicles per day, which is double the rate of production since launch.
Peugeot says 68 percent of the 2008’s sales are for upper trim levels, a testimony of the brand’s move up-market in the B segment.
Peugeot’s engine offerings for the 2008 include a three-cylinder 1.2-liter petrol unit in 82PS (81hp), 110PS (108hp) and 130PS (128hp) versions, a 1.6-liter VTi petrol with 120PS (118hp), a 1.4-liter diesel rated at 68PS (67hp), and a 1.6-liter diesel available with 92PS (91hp) and 115PS (113hp).
