Would you buy a high performance sports car that’s more than 200kg (440lbs) heavier, less rigid structurally, around 20 percent more expensive when new…and the opposite when time comes to sell it, over its coupe sibling only because you can neatly hide the top and enjoy the sun for a few rides in the spring and the summer?

An M3 or M4 convertible might not make a lot of sense for purists, but it does for others, who don’t mind the shortcomings of BMW‘s M-badged open-air models.

One thing we will say is that, the new M4 Convertible does look the part in these frontal photos shot by our spies in Europe –  less so when viewed from the back.

Besides the added weight and the retractable hardtop, the upcoming addition to the M4 family will share the same chassis, aerodynamic and 425hp (431PS) and 550Nm (406 lb-ft)-strong turbocharged inline-six as the M4 Coupe and M3 Sedan models.
