If expanding the range of available models works for BMW, then it should work for Mini as well, right? We’re guessing the point of all this is that, there’s only so much growth to be achieved with existing body styles, so the decision-makers over at the BMW Group are determined to find other ways to increase sales for core models like the Mini Hatch, which will soon welcome its first five-door iteration.
While someone did snap a shot of an undisguised, pre-production 2015 Mini five-door hatch last month (see it here), the brand’s engineers haven’t quite finished testing the car, as evidenced by these spy shots taken in northern Europe.
The five-door hatchback, which should come into the spotlight before the end of the year, will ride on a slightly longer wheelbase than the already available three-door hatchback version of the third generation Mini, with the front pair of doors being a tad shorter in length.
It will not win any passenger space contests, but it should provide a little bit more room for those sitting at the back over the three-door model.
The same lineup of petrol and diesel engines available on the three-door hatch will be on offer for the five-door model, with the latter to likely command a small premium in price over the former.
Aside from the 5-door, the new Mini range will also include the estate-like Clubman, the sporty JCW and a convertible edition.
