You know the saying from Sun Tzu’s The Art of War about being familiar with your enemy; so does Kia, as according to our man on the field, Kia benchmarked the next Sorento against the current Audi Q5 during cold weather testing in Sweden.
While Kia has lengthy road ahead to reach the status of premium makers like Audi, the Koreans are actively moving forward, bettering themselves with each new generation of cars they introduce. Knowing how similar models from other categories perform, certainly helps.
If you’re wondering about the other camouflaged SUV in the pictures, our spies tell us that it was the smaller Hyundai ix25.
The new 2016 Sorento was heavily cladded in camouflage, so the styling direction is not clear, but Hyundai and Kia design boss Peter Schreyer has said in the past that he wants the two brands to have their own identity, despite sharing the same platforms and mechanical components.
Speaking of the chassis, the next Sorento will likely share its underpinnings with the latest Hyundai Santa Fe.
We should learn more in the coming months, as the Sorento is rumored for an introduction either late this year or in early 2015.
