Icon is the kind of company that brings classic car fantasies to life with a modern twist and modern mechanicals. You really can’t beat the combination of old style and new tech, and the attraction of pickup trucks…

The company’s latest creation is the Chevy Thriftmaster, a 315 hp 5.3-liter LS9 V8-powered reimagining of the 1950s TR series truck, with flashes of not-standard art deco fittings and fixtures that give it a really unique look; the paint of the presented example helps too.

It has a six-speed manual gearbox, independent suspension at all corners, revamped brakes with working antilock function and an available intercooled supercharger kit.

The body is a mix of period parts that looked right to creator Jonathan Ward, but it still retains the authentic period look – nothing is out of place and overtly modern on the outside.

Inside, everything that’s from this millennium has been carefully tucked away or hidden, and that’s been made easier by the fact that most functions can now be controlled via a touchscreen command unit, negating the need for physical switches.

There’s so much more to be said about this Chevy Thriftmaster by Icon conversion, so we might as well hear it from Mr. Ward himself, in the Roads&Rides video posted after the virtual jump.
