Unless you’re a dedicated Mustang fan, you could easily miss this one, but our camera-equipped man on the ground did notice Ford’s very lightly camouflaged prototype and took these shots. If you’re asking us what it is, we believe it could be the long-rumored Mustang 50th Anniversary Edition, which may use a 2014 1/2 model year badge as a nod to the original pony car instead of the 2015MY moniker.

Obviously, it’s a 5.0-liter V8 model, but unlike the new Mustangs we’ve seen so far, there are no GT badges, while also sporting some minor cosmetic differences, mainly the new grille that does away with the plastic fangs, gaining a more retro style look with an enclosed pony badge.

Furthermore, the covered rear quarter-window seems to be hiding 1960s style louvers, while we also noticed the Brembo brakes hiding behind the black-colored wheels of this tester.

There could be more changes in store, such as a different panel between the tail lights and perhaps, bespoke interior trimmings and mechanical upgrades, but this is pure speculation for now.

We also don’t know if this will be a separate special edition or an optional package offered for a limited time, and whether it will be available with the V6 and the 4-cylinder turbo engines as well, but with the New York Auto Show coming up soon, it shouldn’t be long before we find out.
