Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) will unveil seven new Alfa Romeo models in a bid to increase sales of the Italian brand fivefold. According to a report from Germany’s Auto Bild magazine that didn’t reveal any sources, Alfa Romeo will launch a convertible Spider by 2016, followed by the sedan and wagon versions of the Giulia and Alfetta models in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

While the Giulia sedan will compete with BMW’s 3-Series, the Alfetta will be a rival for the BMW 5-Series. Besides these models, Alfa Romeo also plans two crossovers, a compact version and a larger one, scheduled to arrive in 2017 and 2018, respectively. As for Alfa Romeo’s current lineup, the report said the MiTo and Giulietta hatchbacks will not get replacements as previously anticipated.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is targeting sales of at least 500,000 vehicles a year, up from around 100,000 units in 2013. The report did not mention a timeframe. While FCA did not comment on the report, the company will unveil a new industrial plan on May 6, when it will outline investments and new models for the next three years.

The re-launch of the Alfa Romeo brand is a key part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ plans to return to profit in Europe by 2016. CEO Sergio Marchionne believes Alfa can deliver the global profile that the Fiat brand cannot, along with far greater sales volumes than top-end Maseratis. Fiat bought the Alfa Romeo brand in 1986 but has failed to reinvigorate it despite repeated attempts.
