The Traction Avant was, in its day, a midsized luxury executive car that came in a variety of body styles, though all shared the same front-wheel drive layout and three-speed manual gearbox with column shift.

Being the predecessor of the much more famous DS or ID models, you’d expect it to have cool innovations under the skin, which itself may not be to everybody’s taste (it has even less mass appeal than the DS, I think).

However, for the American enthusiast looking to see what the forefront of European automobile tech looked like after the war, then parting with $16,500 to enter possession of this fine late series 1955 model that’s up for grabs in Woodstock, Illinois, by Vintagesportscar, makes sense.

The seller says he spent 450 hours “getting the car roadworthy in addition to removing the surface rust from the undercarriage; no through rust was found. This is a very solid car that you could drive anywhere.”

His reasons for selling the car: “recently retired, my wife convinced me that we needed to travel and 5 collector’s car was too many….time to thin the herd; I am therefore parting with my Peugeot 203 as well as this Traction,” he said.
