The Maserati 3500 GT was the company’s first attempt at large-volume manufacturing, as until then the Italian carmaker mostly built racing cars and limited production GT cars. This is why the 3500 GT is an important model for Maserati and a valued collectible.

The 2+2 GT launched at the 1957 Geneva Motor Show with an aluminum bodywork crafted by Milan-based Carrozzeria Touring. The car was powered by an aluminum-block 3.5-liter straight-six cylinder engine that produced an impressive 220 hp at 5,500 rpm.

Francis Mandarano is a rabid fan of these early Maseratis, and his passion for the noble Italian brand started after visiting the Maserati plant in the 1960s. He owns no less than four 3500 GTs, his favorite one being a white car that was originally sold new in Mexico along with four other 3400 GTs.

For this reason he calls it “La Latina”. Besides the drop dead gorgeous design and the sporty handling, Mandarano loves the “primal” sound of the engine, which you can hear as well if you watch Petrolicious’ latest video posted below.
