While at a first glance, the Opel/Vauxhall Agila seems to serve as fitting rival to the new crop of city cars, its rebadged Suzuki Splash looks are really no match for any of its new competitors. It’s a dated-looking model that’s been in production in Hungary since 2007, and if reports are correct, the GM-owned brands are already well underway with the creation of a Chevy Spark-based city car.

The car would take aim squarely on the cars in the title, as well as the VW up!, Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii and others like them.

UK magazine AutoExpress reminds us that the original plan was for PSA and GM to cooperate and this would have resulted in a quartet of new small cars built on the same platform and shown at the Geneva motor show, not a trio.

Details on GM’s new European city car are sparse, but it would share engines with the quasi-cool Adam, feature an efficiency-oriented lightweight construction and be cheap to run and tax. The bottom of its pricing scheme is expected to start at under £7,000 ($11,700 or €8,400).
