Porsche said it’s close to fixing the fault that provoked engine fires in the 911 GT3 and triggered a recall of all 2014 model year 911 GT3 models.
“We know the reason and the problem-solving measures. We’re testing them,” Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller was quoted by Bloomberg at a press conference on Friday. The executive didn’t provide details about the cause of the fires, but said Porsche will be more specific once a solution has been found. He added that the carmaker will announce the technical solution “shortly” and will first inform customers.
Porsche recalled all 785 units of the 2014 911 GT3 last month after two vehicles caught fire in Switzerland and Italy following engine failures. The company requested owners to stop driving their cars pending repairs. No accidents or injuries were linked to the incidents, Porsche said at the time.
The 469hp Porsche 911 GT3 is the hardcore version of the current 991 series and costs €137,303 in Germany and $130,400 in the United States.
