See those massive brake discs filling up all the space behind the alloy wheel openings and the four tail pipes at the rear end of this Mercedes-Benz C-Class prototype? Well, they’re not only for show, as this is the new C63 AMG, set to be uncovered later this year, possibly in Paris in October or Los Angeles in November.
Much like its chief competitor from Bavaria, the new BMW M3, the next C63 AMG will abandon its naturally-aspirated ways and adopt turbocharging, but instead of a six-cylinder unit, Stuttgart has opted for a 4.0-liter V8 Turbo that replaces the current 6.2-liter V8.
The bi-turbocharged V8, which will also be employed in Merc’s new GT AMG sports car among other vehicles, should poke out around 450-horses in base form and go over 500hp mark in advanced guise (think Black Edition).
The top C-Class model will retain the C63 AMG moniker and will be offered, initially at least, with rear-wheel drive only.
