With only a few days left for the opening race of the 2014 MotoGP season in Qatar this Sunday, March 23, BMW has loosened up its stranglehold on the new M4 Safety Car, releasing new photos and a list with all the modifications it made to the coupe.
As one would expect, BMW is using the MotoGP model to display and promote its M Performance Parts, including the first application of a titanium exhaust system with carbon finishers, carbon fiber front splitter with blade, rear diffusor, rear spoiler and mirror caps, side skirts, and a black front grille.
M Performance components can also be found inside. These include the Alcantara sports steering wheel with race display at 12 o’clock, carbon and Alcantara trims for the dual-clutch transmission’s gear lever and the handbrake, and stainless steel pedals footrest.
The true Safety Car components are the RECARO racing seats with Schroth belts, LED lights on the front apron and the roof, a fire extinguisher, plus the exterior livery.
The M4 is BMW’s 16th MotoGP car, and will join the existing M3 Limousine and M5 Limousine, which will also be used as Safety Cars during the racing season. Furthermore, the Safety Officer will take to the track in a modified M6 Coupé, and two M550d xDrive Tourings will assume the role of Medical Cars. A pair of BMW Safety Bikes complete the fleet of official vehicles for the season.
