During last week’s Geneva Motor Show press days, Land Rover confirmed rumors that the Discovery nameplate will become its own family of vehicles, beginning from 2015 with the replacement of the Freelander (LR2 in America).
What LR didn’t mention at the time is, what other designation it will use to separate the regular, full-size Discovery from the smaller model, like it does with the original Range Rover and sportier Range Rover Sport and compact Range Rover Evoque.
Today, our spies from CarPix told us that they heard from an inside source that, the car will be named the Land Rover Discovery Sport, with the same person adding that, “production will start in November or December 2014”
The baby Discovery sits on a stretched version of the Range Rover Evoque’s platform, with which it will likely share its initial range of petrol and diesel powertrains. If you scroll down, you will find a fresh video of the Discovery Sport, filmed while undergoing cold weather tests in Europe.
