The new generation of America’s most wanted and loved Subaru Legacy of all, the station wagon-based (but don’t you dare call it that) Outback, came out of the closet today, just before it flaunts its reworked body on the New York Auto Show stage.
Like the latest Legacy sedan, it improves upon its predecessor with a slightly fancier and crispier design that also looks less bulky than before.
The added bumper and fender cladding, bulging roof rails and taller ride height that U.S. buyers came to love all these years, are all here too.
We don’t have the official press blurb in our hands yet, but the 2015 Outback’s powertrains should mirror those found on the sedan, including the uprated 175hp 2.5-liter boxer-4 and the 256hp 3.6-liter boxer-6 linked to a CVT transmission.
