Bentley, the VW Group’s second most prestigious marque after Bugatti, has been quietly, but steadily expanding its model range these past few years. Just recently, it added a new sportier V8 model to its Continental GT line with the “S” edition. Now, our spies caught the firm testing yet another prototype, believed to be a step up from the Continental GT V8 S, possibly carrying the SS or RS designation.

The twin exhausts on either side of the rear diffuser forming the shape of number 8 cast no doubt that this is a V8 model (the W12s feature two oval pipes), but compared to the existing Continental GT V8 S, it benefits from a fixed large rear wing and a bigger chin spoiler that wraps around the edges.

These images also suggest that Bentley may have removed the rear seats, but we can’t say with certainty.

In the GT V8 S, the improved twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine gained 21hp and 20Nm (15 lb-ft) of torque over standard Continental GT V8, delivering 521hp (528PS) and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft).

To justify the existence of the GT V8 SS or RS, it should get at least 550-horses, further improving the V8 S’ performance numbers of 0-100km/h (62mph) in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 309 km/h (192 mph).
