A group of around 30 masked vandals marred the farewell trip of Melbourne’s Hitachi electric train on Saturday when the brazen youths stopped the train and spray-painted the sides of the attached cars, to the anger of the passengers, most of whom were reportedly train enthusiasts.
Video footage shows the commuters hurling drinks, throwing objects and yelling colorful Australian insults (NSFW) at the young men who fled after 90 seconds.
The incident is far more serious than what the headline suggests if the allegations from one of the passengers that the group of young men “jammed a brick under a train stop to halt it, pulled an air hose at the back to disable the train, then set to work” hold true, as reported in The Age. It is believed that the three youths filmed vandalizing the carriage had accomplices inside the train.
Melbourne police are currently investigating the incident.
