One of the most significant advantages of large truck-based SUVs like the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon is they can seat up to nine people along with their luggage in their stretched versions. That’s a trick very few (if any) minivans can pull.
In terms of powertrains, Consumer Reports’ Tom Mutchler says these SUVs could use an 8-speed automatic or maybe a diesel engine, as the base 355hp 5.3-liter V8 paired to a six-speed auto struggles to offer a decent pace. For more power, customers are forced to buy the Denali versions of the GMC Yukon, as only these are offered with a 420hp 6.2-liter V8.
Speaking of the Denali, CR argues it is too expensive for its own good, as it is dangerously close to the Mercedes-Benz GL and the BMW X5. GM is lucky though: the Tahoe and the Yukon are the most modern offerings in their segment, which should be enough to lure buyers.
