While Mercedes-Benz will continue production of the SLS AMG supercar until the middle of this year, Porsche’s 997-based 911 GT2 RS is no longer manufactured. However, that didn’t stop EVO’s Jethro Bovingdon from testing both cars on track to see which is faster.
With 620PS (612hp) and 700Nm (516 lb-ft) from a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter six-cylinder boxer engine, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS seems well equipped to take on Mercedes-AMG’s beast. The SLS AMG Black Series is powered by a 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine producing 631PS (622hp) and 634Nm (468 lb-ft).
But numbers aren’t everything. While the hardcore Porsche 911 is fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox, the SLS AMG Black Series sports the AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed transmission. On paper, the Porsche looks slightly faster, as it is able to cover the 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.5 seconds, 0.1 seconds quicker than the SLS AMG Black Series.
However, on a twisty racetrack a car needs more than a quick 0-100 km/h time to deliver a fast lap. Find out which of the two supercars comes on top in EVO’s video posted below.
