North America will soon welcome a new contender in the growing compact SUV segment as Honda issued a press statement today in which it said the company will make “an announcement about the compact SUV that will join the lineup this winter” at the upcoming New York Auto Show.
Since it wasn’t clear if the new SUV would be on stage in the Big Apple, we contacted Honda for more information.
The brand’s U.S. spokesman Chris Martin, told us: “We are not planning to show the new compact SUV in NY, but we will reveal some new information about it during our press event. This new vehicle is closely related to the JDM Vezel with some not yet revealed differences for the US market.”
The Japanese market Vezel is the production version of the Honda Urban Concept displayed at the 2013 Detroit motor show.
It’s smaller than the CR-V at around 4.3m (169.3 in) long, and in Japan, it is offered with a regular 1.5-liter gasoline engine and a hybrid version that adds an electric motor to the mix. We have heard that Honda is considering a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine for North America.
