Hyundai’s world premiere at the Beijing Auto Show is the ix25 Concept, a small crossover study that previews a production model scheduled to launch exclusively in China later this year.
Shaped by Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy, the ix25 features a bold front, voluminous side and a sporty rear end – we’ll have to take Hyundai’s word for the last part, as the automaker hasn’t been particularly generous with the photos.
The ix25 has an overall length of 4,270mm (168in), a width of 1,780mm (70in) and a height of 1,630mm (64.2in), while its wheelbase reaches 2,590mm (102in). The study is powered by Hyundai’s ‘Nu’ 2.0-liter gasoline engine with an unspecified power output.
Hyundai says the ix25 is aimed at the young generation who seek style and practicality at the same time. Scheduled to launch in the second half of this year, the ix25 will add to Hyundai’s existing SUVs offered in China: ix35, Santa Fe and Grand Santa Fe. The carmaker says that the “i” in ix25 represents the “inspiring, intelligent and innovative” characteristics of the young generation.
Alongside the ix25 Concept, Hyundai has also unveiled the all-new Genesis for the first time in China. Offered with 3.0 GDI and 3.3 GDI engines, the premium sedan will arrive in Chinese dealerships in the second half of the year.
