Individualization has become a big thing these days for most premium carmakers, including McLaren that has created the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) division precisely for this purpose. Over the coming weeks, MSO will be travelling through China to promote its work with a new one-off design concept based on the new 650S Coupe.

Seen here for the first time before it’s China tour, the MSO 650S Coupe Concept is finished in a special ‘Agrigan Black’ hue that McLaren says is a metallic black paint with a deep ruby red metallic flake.

On the outside, the sports model has been fitted with a handful of carbon fiber parts such as a prominent front splitter and air intakes, side blades and rear diffuser, while the same lightweight material is found in the engine bay. MSO’s 650S rides on newly styled satin black finished alloy wheels, mounted on beefy Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.

For the interior, McLaren’s design team developed a new pair of fixed-back carbon fiber racing seats with carbon black leather inspired by the ones used on the P1, said to offer weight saving of 15kg (33 pounds), with other touches including satin carbon fiber accents and gloss black-finished switchgear and bezels.

According to a statement from McLaren, “the MSO 650S Coupe Concept is presented as a one-off design study, and MSO is monitoring reaction regarding any potential production examples”.

For the time being, the MSO side blades and rear diffuser are available to buyers at a cost of £5,114 ($8,620 / €6,200) and £7,245 ($12,200 /€8,800) respectively for both the new 650S and the outgoing 12C.
