Mystery solved: Subaru’s new contender for the Global Rally Cross (GRC) based on the Japanese brand’s 2015 WRX STI Sedan was the car teased the other day through a cropped photo of the light blue colored rear wing. The Rallycross-spec 2015 WRX STI made its world premiere today at the New York International Auto Show.

A joint project with Subaru Rally Team USA, RedBull Global Rallycross, and NBC to promote the 2014 RedBull GRC season that begins May 18, the STI was prepared by Vermont SportsCar.

It comes with a custom-made wide body kit, a carbon fiber rear wing, rally car-style roof scoop and mirrors, along with Method Race Wheels mounted on RedBull GRC’s new Yokohama spec race tires.

Subaru said that the full-race version will land in the hands of team drivers Bucky Lasek and Sverre Isachsen this fall.
