The DKR concept shows that funnction dictates what an off-road motorsport-oriented vehicle should look like, as well as the fact that the resulting shape doesn’t necessarily have to be unattractive – quite the opposite if you’re called Peugeot.
Seen here being unloaded into place for it to be put on display at Peugeot’s Beijing motor show stand, the light hits it very differently from the way it did in the studio shots we had and one thing’s for sure: it’s a relaly unique looking piece of dune-munching equipment that that has received a lot of attention from designers.
Just look at how the roof-mounted spoiler seamlessly blends in with the rest of the design, or the front bumper with integrated D-rings for towing, and the way this emphasizes the (red and black) shock absorber/spring setup.
The DKR previews Peugeot’s actual rear-wheel drive entry into the Dakar rally, which will be piloted by Spaniard Carloz Saniz and Frenchman Cyril Despres. It’s speculated to also get diesel power.
