For this year’s GTI Fan Meet in Wörthersee, Austria, Skoda has prepared a two-seater sports convertible based on the Citigo mini car. Built by 16 Skoda Apprentices in partnership with the carmaker’s design department, the CitiJet concept car will be unveiled on May 28 at the 33rd GTI Fan Meet at Wörthersee.
Work on the project began in November 2013, with the apprentices given free rein in their creativity. Skoda says this is the first time that this kind of trainee project has been undertaken at the company, with the aim being to encourage the apprentices’ creativity and expertise in bringing their own ideas and enthusiasm into designing a car.
The Skoda CitiJet features a chopped-off roof, a metallic finish in blue and white and sporty blue-finish 16-inch alloy wheels. A hand-made rear spoiler and a double exhaust complete the exterior changes. There is no change under the bonnet though, with the CitiJet featuring the standard 1.0-liter MPI petrol engine with 75 PS (74hp) from the Citigo.
The interior is based on the special edition Skoda Citigo Sport and includes red-hemmed, leather 3-spoke steering wheel, leather-covered handbrake and gearstick. The seat covers and floor mats are fitted out with the ‘Sports’ fabric design, and the instrument panel is finished in red and white. In addition, a special sound system has been installed with an output of 300 watts which is synchronized with the blue LED interior lighting system.
