The Viziv 2 concept that was shown by Subaru at the 2014 Geneva motor show reportedly previews the design language of an upcoming SUV designed to fill the void left in the range by the phasing out of the unsuccessful Tribeca.

At least that’s what MotorTrend claims in a report that says the production version of the car would also feature a diesel-electric hybrid system comprised of a 2.0-liter boxer and tech borrowed from Toyota.

It could also retain the three electric motor layout, with one on the front axle and two at the back, one for each wheel.

Design-wise, the magazine says the Viziv 2 previews the styling of both a smaller SUV and the larger crossover replacement for the Tribeca, though, as we’ve come to expect (disappointment) from Subaru, it will probably be toned down almost beyond recognition.

It won’t be the first new model added to the range, though, and we’ll first see all-new Outback, which is expected to debut at the New York auto show later this month.
