Nissan’s ‘Eureka’ moment to squeeze the GT-R’s fabulous inner workings under the skin of a seemingly harmless Juke and offer the resulting Juke-R for sale at a lofty half-a-million euros (think around US$690,000), didn’t go by undetected in the tuning world, with one UK firm applying the recipe on a Nissan Qashqai+2 Mk1.
To put it simply, British GT-R tuning specialist Severn Valley Motorsport (SVM) took the shell of Nissan’s family-orientated 7-seater crossover and dropped it on the modified chassis and…tuned mechanical hardware of an R35 GT-R.
The exterior of the car is a mixture of elements from the GT-R and the Qashqai, while inside, it’s mostly R35 right down to the Recaro seats and instrument panel, with modifications where necessary.
“The car is a hybrid of a Qashqai+2 360 and an R35 GT-R, using the complete running gear and floor pan from the R35 has enabled us to take the Qashqai from it’s standard engine and running gear to the identical set-up that the R35 uses,” says SVM. “The inspiration came from the Juke-R, but as you will see SVM have took it onto another level.”
You see, instead of using the standard GT-R twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 with 500-ish horses, SVM picked out one of its tuned mills achieving around…1,000hp.
No final performance figures have been released yet, but SVM says the Qashqai-R is estimated to return a 0-60mph (96km/h) time of 2.3 seconds, 0-100mph (160km/h) in a mind-blasting 5.6 seconds and a quarter mile run in 9.78 seconds at 150mph or 241km/h (Bugatti Veyron 10.3 seconds).
SVM says that further power upgrades may be available at a later date. There’s no word on pricing, but no need to explain why this won’t be a cheap performance ride…
