Toyota has announced a few modifications for the GT86 sports car in Europe for the 2015 model year, with the main updates involving handling and stability. Although the car was only introduced in 2012, the engineering team has continued development to further improve its dynamic characteristics.

The most important update consists of a more rigid fixation of the front suspension and the rear shock absorbers. The increased rigidity is exploited by the reworked shock absorbers, which provide a more stable damping and improved friction control, with Toyota claiming they deliver smoother and more communicative handling.

Body-roll is also said to be further reduced, and the steering feel is crisper than before.

Toyota says the suspension upgrade is aimed at making it easier for the driver to read the road, giving him all the confidence he needs to control the car, when it’s driven on the limit.

“There is no reason that development should stop, only because the vehicle has gone on sale. GT86 is all about driver involvement, and we are committed to keep enhancing this aspect of the car. The 2015 Model Year delivers the latest status of GT86’s continuous evolution,” said Chief Engineer Tetsuya Tada.

Other updates include a new carbon-fiber motif dashboard insert, and the introduction of a shark-fin antenna. The latter is said to improve both looks and aerodynamics. Other exterior updates include the addition of two new paint colors, pearl white and silver. The 2015 MY Toyota GT86 will be available in Europe from summer.
